About Mitra Bio
Mitra Bio is building the future of skincare through epigenetics, longevity science and AI. We use non-invasive skin sampling and advanced data science to understand how skin changes over time, identify biomarkers of skin health and ageing, and translate complex biological data into insights that can enable more personalised and effective approaches to skincare.
As we continue to develop our scientific platform, we’re looking for a Principal Data Scientist – Precision Biomarkers in Skin Health to play a pivotal role in advancing our understanding of skin biology and developing the biomarkers, models and scientific insights that underpin our technology and products.
This is a flexible hybrid role, and you’ll be expected to work regularly from our West London office.
The Role
Reporting to the Head of Data Science, you’ll work at the intersection of skin biology, bioinformatics, epigenetics and AI to discover and validate novel biomarkers, develop predictive models and translate complex biological datasets into meaningful insights about skin health, ageing and disease.
This is a hands-on, senior individual contributor role for a scientist with deep computational expertise and a strong understanding of skin biology.
You’ll work with complex biological and clinical datasets to investigate the mechanisms underlying skin health and ageing, identify meaningful biological signals and develop robust analytical approaches that can ultimately translate scientific discovery into real-world applications.
You’ll also play an important role in shaping Mitra Bio’s scientific thinking: designing analyses, challenging hypotheses, interpreting findings in their biological context and communicating results through scientific writing, publications and presentations.
Deep experience in skin health, skin biology and/or dermatology is essential for this role.
About You
You’re a scientist first, with deep computational expertise and a genuine depth of knowledge in skin biology and dermatology.
You may have begun your career in biology, molecular biology, genetics, dermatology or another life science before specialising in bioinformatics, computational biology or data science.
More importantly, you have spent meaningful time working specifically with skin.
Your experience may come from areas such as skin biology, dermatology, skin ageing, inflammatory skin conditions, melanoma, skin biomarkers or related research. You understand that analysing skin data requires more than strong computational skills; it requires enough biological depth to understand what the data is actually telling us.
You don’t just build models or run analyses. You enjoy asking why a biological signal exists, whether it makes scientific sense, how it relates to existing evidence and what it could tell us about skin health.
You’re equally comfortable working independently with complex datasets and collaborating with scientists across disciplines to turn data into rigorous, evidence-based scientific conclusions.
You should apply if you have:
- An MSc, PhD or equivalent industry experience in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Dermatology or a related discipline
- Significant research or industry experience specifically in skin biology, skin health, dermatology, skin ageing, melanoma or a closely related field
- 5+ years’ experience developing bioinformatics, computational biology and/or machine learning solutions
- Deep experience analysing NGS, DNA methylation and other high-dimensional omics datasets
- Strong Python skills and experience developing robust, reproducible bioinformatics workflows
- Experience identifying, developing and/or validating biological biomarkers
- Experience designing scientific studies or analysing clinical or translational research datasets
- A strong understanding of the biology underlying your analyses, with the ability to interpret computational findings within their biological context
- Excellent scientific writing skills, with experience contributing to publications, scientific reports, conference abstracts or similar outputs
- Excellent presentation skills and the ability to communicate complex biological and computational findings clearly
- The ability to independently lead complex scientific projects from hypothesis and study design through analysis, interpretation and communication
- The ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams spanning biology, data science and product development
