Role
We are seeking an experienced Director of Data Science to lead our AI/ML strategy and prediction
tool development development. This is a unique opportunity to shape the data and machine learning
backbone of a disruptive biotech company, working at the intersection of epigenetics (DNA
methylation), bioinformatics, and skin biology.
You will be working on cutting edge omics studies to advance skin diagnostics and discovery of novel
anti-aging treatments. Your work will translate into an impactful product in the hands of the consumer.
In this customer focused and technically savvy role, you will deliver data science solutions for Next
Generation Sequencing with a focus on DNA methylation. You will work in a multi-disciplinary team
and will be involved in strategy. The ideal candidate will be a strong computational biologist with
experience across diagnosis biomarker development, DNA methylation analysis, team leadership,
and AI/ML— and must be comfortable in a fast-paced, product-oriented collaborative start-up
environment.
Responsibilities
• Define and lead Mitra’s data science strategy across the full data lifecycle — from analysis
module to fully automated client reporting
• Design and build reliable predicting models for skin health using a comprehensive database
of DNA methylation profiles and extensive metadata
• Build and apply advanced statistical and machine learning approaches to model skin ageing,
predict phenotypes, and support personalised recommendations
• Build causality models by integrating multiple types of omics – extract meaningful biomarkers.
• Work collaboratively with the engineering team to develop robust, scalable data pipelines for
omics data processing and analysis – enable translation from services to product-oriented
data science strategy
• Collaborate with the engineering team to build a robust automated reporting system for client
projects
• Work cross-functionally with wet lab scientists and product teams to develop integrated,
hypothesis-driven workflows
• Hire, mentor, and grow a high-performing computational team; create an inspiring and
accountable team culture
• Present insights and platform vision to internal and external stakeholders, including investors
and partners
• Guide development of proprietary algorithms and contribute to strategic decisions around
data strategy, infrastructure, and roadmap
Essential Skills and Experience
• PhD in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Genomics, or related field, with 5 years post-
PhD experience in industry
• Proven leadership in data science or bioinformatics functions, ideally within a biotech or
health tech environment
• Expertise in epigenetics, particularly DNA methylation analysis
• Proficiency in Python, including pipeline development, version control, and collaborative
coding practices
• Proficient in cloud computing platforms (AWS preferred) and experience with distributed
computing
• Experience applying machine learning or deep learning methods to biological data
• Strong understanding of multi-omics data integration and real-world data use in diagnostics or
product development
• Excellent communication skills and a team-first, startup-ready mindset
Desirable
• Experience developing data platforms in a regulated or clinical environment
• Knowledge of personalised medicine or biomarker discovery pipelines
• Familiarity with non-invasive diagnostics and consumer-facing data platforms
